Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong is in Finland for minor surgery.

The injury according to the BBC’s Oluwashina Okeleji occurred during the second group stage game against Ivory Coast at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Despite the injury, William became Player of the Tournament.

He is expected to return to play for PAOK towards the end of the season.

Ekong will be in the safe hands of Dr Lasse Lampeinen for Tuesday’s surgery.

He missed the last group game against Guinea Bissau but played through the pain against Cameroon, Angola, South Africa, and Cote d’Ivoire in the final match.

Ekong scored 3 goals and was outstanding for the Super Eagles.
