  • Etoumbang scores his fifth goal of the season to secure his club’s fourth victory
  • The win s TKC’s second upon resumption of the MTN Elite Two championship

Frederick Etoumbang ensured TKC keeps track of Pool A leaders Aigle Royal of Moungo in the delayed match day nine game of the 2023/24 MTN Elite Two championship.

The veteran striker and skipper of the legendary TKC side scored the lone goal as the hosts edged visiting Racing of Bafoussam in the frantic encounter at the Omnisport Annex stadium on Monday.

This clash between the second and third club in Pool A manifested the slight difference in content of booth clubs as they cancelled out each other all afternoon until the Etoumbang moment.

Chances were few and far between in the opening 45 minutes of the game with the best opportunities to score being the visitors but they failed to make the most of it.

Etoumbang, former Colombe of Dja and AS FAP striker scored the winner deep into the second segment to ensure the multiple times champions of Cameroon return to winning ways for the first time in three match days.

Though Racing rallied and tried to find their way back into the game, it wasn’t to be and TKC displayed its regular resistance at the back to foil all plans to deny them a clean sheet.

The game ended one-nil in favour of coach Rene Essomba’s team as they move within three points of current leaders, Aigle Royal of Moungo that picked up a shocked 4-3 win away to Foncha Street in their own match day nine fixture last Sunday in Bamenda.

TKC are currently ranked second in the league placings with 15 points, three shy of Aigle.

Elsewhere, Renaissance beat Unisport 1-0 in their own match day nine clash in Yaoundé. Renaissance travels to Bafang on match day ten to face Unisport while Racing welcomes Renaissance.
