Montaigu 2023: France denies visa to Gabonese U16 football squad

The French Consulate General in Gabon has denied visa applications, to the Gabonese Under-16 football team expected to participate in the fifth edition of the Montaigu Championship.

The information was officially made public, by the Gabonese Football Association, on Thursday 30,in a communique.

The competition is expected to run from April 2 to 10 , 2023 in France. With the participation of the following teams; Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Central African Republic, England, New Macedonia, Portugal,Japan, Gabon, Czech Republic, Morocco, Mexico, Romania and Ivory Coast.

The French diplomats have expressed fear that the Gabonese U16 players, could disappeared and fail to return home at the end of the youth soccer fiesta.

The team was expected to join the other countries in France for the Montaigu Championship in the days ahead.

The Montaigu tournament also referred to as “Mondial Minimes”, is a yearly international soccer gathering contested by the under-16.

According to the communique, the Gabonese Football Association had spend a total amount of 100 million FCFA on ; flight tickets, hotel bills, insurance and transportation.

Visa demands had been made at the French Consulate, since March 21,2023.
