The year 2022 has been a blast to the Uganda Women Football fraternity ,characterised by rapid growth , glamour, participation that picked the attention of every citizen as the Sport takes a stride.
We take a look at moments that stood out as the year draws to an end.
1 𝙎𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙁𝙒𝙎𝙇 2021/22
2022 saw nakawa-based side She Corporate crowned the FUFA Women Super League Champions in the country’s top flight women competition .The hardwork , sacrifice ,snergy is what can describe the maranthom journey as the Sharks reached success. She Corporate drew with rivals Kampala Queens in the last season game on 20th May ,a game that handled them the trophy after having a superior goal difference in what replicated the tight competition with both sides finishing on similar points. The sharks won 11games ,6 draws and one loss as they won their first league trophy in History.
2 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝘾𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙛𝙖 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥
The Uganda Women National team ,Crested Cranes made history as they won the first CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship on 11th June in Njeru. The hosts beat Burundi 3-1 in finals to win this year’s edition.It was a milestone to the national team as they finally touched the prize after failing out in the past editions. The tournament saw Uganda win the Championship unbeaten with a big task coming in Semi-finals after fazila Ikwaput late striker in extra time saw them over Ethiopia to storm finals . Crested Cranes duo Daizy Nakaziro and Fazila Ikwaput saw them win the golden glove and MVP awards respectively.
3 𝙐𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙩 𝙒𝘼𝙁𝘾𝙊𝙉 22
After over 20 years with out participation at the Africa’s Women greatest stage ,The Uganda Women National team this time round ,made a participation again after years of wait. Uganda were in group A alongside hosts Morocco ,Senegal and Burkina Faso . The Crested cranes didn’t go past the group stages after gathering one point from the group stages .They kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Senegal ,3-1 defeat to Morocco and a 2-2 draw with Burkina Faso. One of the highlit was Sumaya Komuntale freekick strike against Hosts Morocco ,which was the first goal for Uganda. Debutant Margaret Kunihira and Sandra Nabweteme were the other scorers for Uganda at the prestigious competition.
𝙎𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙖𝙩 𝘾𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙛𝙖 𝙕𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙧𝙨.
The performance of Uganda representatives at the 2022 CECAFA Women Champions League Qualifiers can’t go unnoticed after carrying the country’s flag high. The Sharks were runners up after losing out to Tanzania outfit Simba Queens in the finals. She Corporate also became the first Uganda team to reach the finals of the zonal Finals after Lady Doves stopped in semis in the first edition. She Corporate were in group B alongside Simba Queens(Tanzania) ,GRFC (Djibouti ) ,Yei Joint Stars ( South Sudan).The sharks won 2 group stages ( GRFC & Yei Joint ) that was enough to send them to the Semi-finals where they recorded a historical 2-1 win over giants Commercial Bank .
