Minkreo Birwe to return as Canon coach

Minkreo Birwe is set to be reappointed coach of Canon Yaoundé for the second time in his career from the start of the 2023/24 season.

The former Aigle Royal, Dragon Yaounde and Cotonsport of Garoua lead trainer is currently negotiating a two-year contract. The move will see him replace Souleymanou Aboubakar, who helped the Canon finish third in the Elite One championship last season, but couldn’t last more than nine months.

Birwe previously spent two seasons as head coach of Canon but was replaced before the start of the 2021 season.

The former U-17 Lionesses coach will be unveiled in the next few days though he has already started training and recruitment of players for the coming season.

Birwe is expected to lead the Canon project for the next two seasons, with the objective of winning the domestic championship.

We understand Canon wants to end their title drought through Birwe, having won their last title in 2002.

The Mekok Megunda will compete in the Elite One championship alongside 19 other clubs in the new season expected to start later this month.
