Lekie Filles of Yaounde have sealed their first Guinness Super League title in their second season in the Cameroon Women’s Football top-flight championship.

Coach Stephane Ndzana’s Lekie dismantled Authentic Ladies FC 6-2 this Saturday to secure their maiden title with three games to spare.

Marie Giselle Ngah Manga scored thrice, adding to goals from Raissa Nnanga Ebolo and Tabe Brenda Ebika reduced Marie Claire Kibinde’s brace to nothing as Authentic suffered a second defeat in a row while Lekie Filles recorded their 16th win of the season.

The latest victory takes Lekie’s points tally to 50, 12 better than Éclair with three games to go.

Lekie Filles ends Awa Ladies run of three domestic title wins in a row and puts them in the winners bracket that has Caiman, Louves Minprof among others.

The new champions will represent Cameroon in the preliminaries of the CAF Champions League expected to start in the weeks ahead.

Lekie’s Foundation for success

Good signings

The side in just their second season in the top-flight is a glaring example of a worthy champion. They had one of the best preparations for the season.

In terms of signings, they did the best business. Brought in over seven players from the then champions Awa Ladies. They splashed over a million to sign record-woman Brenda Tabe, brought in Momazim Brigette, adding to Marie Ngah Manga who turned out to be one of their best business.

Consistency defensively

The likes of Momazim, Mogai Mogai, Marthe Ongmahan have formed a resolute defence that repels everything across the season. Not only were they solid at the back they scored freely especially through their front three of Tabe, Nnanga and Manga.

In all, Lekie has been a worthy champion of the 2022/23 season, only suffered two defeats.
