  • Kooh finished the regular phase of the season and the playoffs phase as the top scorer
  • He joined Astres of Douala two seasons ago from Regional rivals Stade Renard of Melong and has hit the ground running

Astres of Douala striker Kooh Bioumla Jules Armand has scooped the 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship Golden Boot after scoring a brace in his side’s 4-0 win over Avion Academy of Douala in the last game of the season to cap a 22-goal campaign.

The 24-year-old finished the campaign with 22 goals in 27 appearances, five more than Richmond Nji and Kache Boris of Victoria United and Bamboutos FC of Mbouda respectively.

Kooh’s tally for the season is a record in the modern era, smashing the 20-goal feat set by former Dragon of Yaounde forward Junior Rostand Mbai during the 2018 season.

Kooh entered the playoffs as the top scorer of the championship facing competition from the likes of Richmond Nji and Boris Mfoumou.

He becomes the new golden boot holder, replacing Emmanuel Mahopp who scored 14 goals last season to clinch the coveted trophy.
The Cameroon international peaked during the playoffs phase of the championship, netting eight goals to finish ahead of rivals and clinch the prestigious prize.

Kooh who missed just one of Astres matches this season is the architect of their survival in a season defending was their undoing.

Kache and Nji finished joint second with 17 goals apiece in their debut campaign in the top-flight championship while Adrien Mfoumou Boris of AS Fortuna finished the season with 16 goals to his credit.

YOSA’s Nchindo John Bosco meanwhile hit 14 goals in 25 appearances for the Northwest regional outfit.

Winning the golden boot makes him a favorite for the Cameroon footballer of the year award if the past is anything to go by.
