2023/24 MTN Elite One top scorer Jules Armand Kooh scored twice to help Astres of Douala to a 3-1 win against PWD of Bamenda and also move to the top of the MTN Elite One championship scorers chart.

The 24-year-old former Avion Academy and Stade Renard of Melong goal poacher scored a first-half brace while Corines Che got the other goal to reduce Terence Ambe Ngufor’s efforts to a consultation one in the 3-1 win for the visitors.

Kooh entered the contest as one of the regular scorers in this season’s competition and cautious of the need to score to reclaim his lead from Nji Richmond of Victoria United FC.

The big forward took just nine minutes to register his name on the score sheet, driving the ball beyond the reach of Saliou Ahmada.

PWD leveled through Ngufor but quick fire strikes from Che and Kooh put Astres ahead by a 3-1 score after 32 minutes.

Astres’ defensive organizer improved as coach Agbor Ernest did his best to ensure that he gets one against his former employer and return to winning ways after the shock defeat to Union Sportive of Douala last time out.

PWD multiplied their offensive moves and had a number of penalty shouts disregard by the team of match officials especially during the second segment of the game.

The Brazilians of Bepanda as Astres is popularly known snuffed all attempts by the Abakwa Boys to find their way back into the game, thus earning a first away victory of the current campaign.

Kooh’s brace means the one-time intermediate Lions’ forward returns to the top of the scorers chat with eight goals from his opening eight games of what’s promising to be his most prolific season ever.

The win helps Astres move up to the fifth spot in Pool A with 11 points while PWD occupies the eighth spot in the championship with eight points gathered so far.

Astres face Bamboutos FC of Mbouda next weekend while PWD will welcome Gazelle FA that suffered a 0–1 defeat at home to Dynamo on match day eight.
