  • The 25-year-old won MVP in the 2023 edition of the Basketball cup Cameroon
  • Josiane was part of the Cameroon squad that won the silver medal in basketball at the Francophonie games in Kinshasa, winning the most valuable player in the finals against Senegal

Josiane Tcheumeleu, the MVP of the 2023 Basketball cup of Cameroon , has signed a one-year contract with Avenir de Rennes Basket, a top-tier French club.

The 25-year-old basketball player leaves the University of Douala where she has been since 2018 to pursue her first international career in France.

A feat, she is elated to have achieved,

“I feel really proud of myself because I am realizing one of my dearest dreams, which was to be able to show my talent outside the continent. I would like to evolve even more and, above all, move to another level than the one I already have,” Josiane explained.

Josiane was one of the most outstanding players in the 2023 Francophonie games in Kinshasa. She emerged top performer on three occasions, against Senegal in the finals and against Madagascar, Tunisia in the group phase. This competition paved the way for better opportunities.

“So far my journey has gone rather well, especially my return from the Francophonie games, everything has exploded for me” Josiane adds

This ex university of Douala player’s journey began in Bafang, west region of Cameroon, under the guidance of Coach Norbert. Despite her short stature, Josiane showed great potential and passion for the game. However, challenges and criticisms from her neighbors placed her in a state of doubt on her ability to pursue basketball as a long-term career.

With the encouragement from her sister, who plays volleyball, and her family, Josiane was pushed to continue playing. From Bafoussam, the 25-year-old moved to Yaoundé where she joined Onyx Basket Club.

There, she spent two seasons, impressing everyone with her skills and performance. She also earned her first preliminary call up to the national team at just 17 years old.

In 2018, Josiane joined the University of Douala, where she had been for four seasons. She led her team to the finals of the 2023 Cameroon Cup and Championship, where they finished as runners-up.

Between injuries, the native of Bafang participated in major national and international competitions with her team and the national team. She was awarded the MVP of the 2023 Cameroon Cup for her outstanding contribution.

In the future, Josiane hopes to play at the Afro basket and the Olympics.
