After single-handedly helping Imo Strikers to win the maiden Soccer Queens Cup and gaining promotion to second tier Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship, youngster, Harmony Achifula added the Most Valuable Player award to cap up a rewarding 2022.

Achifula was on Wednesday named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the maiden Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup despite her side’s 0-2 loss to Champions, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens.

The award came as surprise to the rising star.

“It was a surprise o! I have dreamt of winning the most valuable player or best player award (gold award). I have gotten it before but they didn’t give me anything gold. I have been praying.” Achifula told www.kick442.com after the final match.

She scored three goals in five matches to win the Most Valuable Player award.

“To myself, I didn’t play well during this tournament but as God just did it for me, they gave me the most valuable player when other players play perfectly. Some of my teammates played better than I did.

“I have lost hope of getting this award. When the announcement was being made, I was playing that it gets to my teammate but it was a surprise to get it. I thank God for everything. It’s just the grace of God.” Achifula concluded.

Achifula and Imo Strikers will now shift focus on the 2023 NWFL Championship.

The immediate concern of the player and the team is to gain promotion to top flight NWFL Premiership where they can rob shoulders with league heavyweights like Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, Nasarawa Amazons, Edo Queens, Delta Queens, Naija Ratels FC, Osun Babes, Confluence Queens, FC Robo Queens, Adamawa Queens, Ibom Angels, Heartland Queens, Royal Queens, and Abia Angels.
