“I dream of being like him [Victor Osimhen]” – Diouf

Sensational Senegalese forward Amara Diouf says his dream is to become as great as Napoli’s legendary Nigerian striker Victor James Osimhen.

The teenage finisher of the Génération Foot Academy made the revelation on Wednesday night after a commanding showing in the 5-0 drubbing of South Africa in the 2023 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which earned Senegal a spot in the semis and FIFA World Cup for his nation.

The 16-year-old scored a brace to win the third ‘man of the match’ award before showing up at the post-match presser to reveal his dream.

“I’m very happy with the win, the individual award and the qualification which was our second objective besides making it out from the group stage. We had the desire to qualify for the World Cup,” Amara said.

The lad has been a tournament sensation, scoring five goals in four games so far. That tally is a competition record, breaking the limits attained by some great names over the years including Osimhen’s four-goal height attained in 2015.

Quiz on the new record and how he sees the crowned prince of Naples, Diouf didn’t mince words;

“I dream of being like him [Victor Osimhen]. Why not?.”

Diouf is the latest from the evergreen Generation Foot production unit and is expected to play a key role in Senegal’s quest to win their first U17 AFCON title.

Osimhen made his baby steps at the U17 AFCON and had developed into one of the most dreaded striker today.

Senegal will face the winner of the quarter-final fixture between Mali and Congo to be played this Thursday.
