A fierce duel is in the offing when known foes, Edo Queens and visitors, Heartland Queens clash in Wednesday’s NWFL Premiership matchday 10 at the mainbowl of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo state.
When the familiars met in matchday 2 of the ongoing topflight in Owerri, it was the champions and leaders that went home with all smiles on 2-1 win against the homers, Heartland Queens.
Prior to Wednesday’s showdown, the topflights were victorious against their matchday 9 challengers, while the fourth best club side in Africa out-punched the oriental hosts, Abia Angels 2-1 in Umuahia, the Owerri landladies piped the Omoluabi Ekiti, Ekiti Queens with one unanswered goal in Owerri.
So far the ongoing season has been sweet for the ancient city side as they sit pretty atop of the group’s table against their visitors, Heartland Queens who are just managing to stay afloat off the redlines.
The ego of the Owerri mainstreams is still hurt by the three points they surrendered to the Benin City side right there at their backyard and will want to right the wrongs with sweet smelling result to take back to the teeming fans in Owerri.
Of course, it will not be a walkover to either side but the Owerri side must find the unlocking keys inside the armoury, and the slightly relieved gaffer of the side, Obi Ogbala is one unknown to run away from daunting task and capable of conjuring almost the impossible.
Delectable shots-stopper, Amarachi Atulayo who missed the matchup against Ekiti Queens in Owerri may return to her duty post, and will be well shielded by the usuals, Oluomachi Onwere, Kelechi Orgii, Ezinne Wokocha, and Nnenna Williams, and usual options, too in the middle, Faith Samson, Endurance Omoraka, Chizoba Johnson and Ola Olaronke. Blessing Saleh, the match winner against Ekiti Queens, will get the nod to further find the back of the net with help options coming from captain, Chimebere Opara, Chinwendu Orji, Emmanuella James and Onyinyechi Kalu.
The Owerri side are in desperate need of good result in the Benin City showdown as they will be making a short road trip to nextdoor oriental neighbours, Abia Angels for matchday 11 game.
Heartland Queens are sixth on the eight-team group’s log on eight points 15 behind the opposite and leaders, Edo Queens.
