The maiden West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Cup kicked off in Ghana on Saturday with the host picking a deserved win.

Black Princess recorded a 3-0 win over Benin Republic to start the 2023 WAFU-B U-20 Women’s Cup on a winning note.

A goal in the first half by Mafiaa Nyame and two in the second half from Mary Amponsah and Stella Nyamekya lifted Yusif Basigi’s side to a comfortable win.

Nyame opened the scoring for the host in the 35th minute as a cross from the right wing located her before she converted a right-footed strike into the top of the goal.

Substitute, Amponsah doubled the lead for Ghana with her first touch of the game in the 61st minute as her attempt from the edge of the box hit the back of the net.

Six minutes later, Ghana captain Nyamekya sealed the win with a superbly taken free kick.

Two games will take place on Sunday in Group B as Nigeria faces Niger Republic in the first game.

Burkina Faso and Togo trade tackles in the second match of the day
