Colombe of Dja and Lobo came from behind to beat Astres 2-1 this Sunday at the Olembe Annex stadium, thus earning a first MTN Elite One victory in 15 games – their first since the start of 2023.
Gabriel Mballa sealed the win as the boys of coach Ndongo Emma came from behind to hand Astres only their second defeat in a strong start to the 2023/24 season.
Les Astres on a run of a win and a draw in the past two games were hoping to build on the 2-1 win against Canon Yaoundé last time out going into the fixture.
Jules Armand Kooh put the visitors ahead when he converted a 32nd minute penalty to put coach Agbor Ernest’s side ahead for the third time in five games this season.
The South Region outfit pushed to get their way back into the contest, creating a number of chances but in as many ocassions their incursions were stopped by the resolute Astres defending.
However, Colombe took their second-half chances, benefiting from a number of defensive blunders to turn things around in the second segment.
Eze Omgba equalized 10 minutes upon resumption before Gabriel Mballa added the second around the hour mark to make it 2-1.
The visitors came close to the equalizer on a number of occasions in the closing moments of the game but it wasn’t to be as Colombe held on to win for the first time since their 3-1 victory against Canon December 31, 2022.
Colombe like the rest of the clubs will observe a short break before the resumption of the championship on November 5 with the Southerners to face AS Fortuna on that day.
