  • Samsunspor are out of the Turkish Cup following a surprised defeat to Yeni Orduspor
  • Olivier Ntcham watched the first segment from the bench, then came on but couldn’t prevent his club’s elimination
  • Samsunspor will now focus on the tough League game in their schedule this weekend

Samsunspor’s run in the 2024/25 Turkish Cup ended at the level of the fourth round and at home on Tuesday evening after the club suffered a shock 2-4 defeat to third tier side Yeni Orduspor after 120 minutes of intense football in which the top-flight side finished with ten men following the sending off of Yunus Emre Çift.

The club currently around the top three positions in the Turkish top-flight championship got off to the worst possible start when Harun Özcan scored the opener after 16 minutes.

Samsunspor replied almost immediately via Ercan Kara who took the penalty in the absence of Olivier Ntcham watching on the bench. It was soon 2-1 when Soner Aydoğdu turned the game on its head by scoring the second goal for the host to give them a lead that lasted till the pause.

The turning point of the game happened deep into the second segment when Çift received a second booking and headed for an early bath while giving away a penalty which Yusuf Atasoy converted to level matters and push the game into extra time.

The four goals were sufficient treats for the fans but more was served in the next two halves of 15 minutes each as Yunus Emre Köse and Nevzat Bilen scored in the first half of extra time to open a teo-goal cushion for Yeni Orduspor.

The club which currently occupies the second position in the third tier championship advances to the next round of the cup while for Ntcham and co their cup dreams are now over. They are condemned to focus on the domestic championship in which they are in a tough competition with high-flying Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe SK.

Samsunspor will have to switch their attention to their League clash against title chasing Eyupspor this weekend.
