The women’s game will take center stage in a three-team tournament set to last for four days – packed with high action and drama, this February, in Cameroon.

The tournament initially scheduled in January postponed due to the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte D’Ivoire. Put together by the Central African Football Federations’ Union (UNIFFAC), the regional jamboree will run from February 12th to 15th in Douala.

Three Central African giants: Cameroon, Congo and the Central African Republic converge in Douala, for the biennial U20 women’s zonal tourney.

This edition will mark the return of the competition after a three-year absence during which Covid-19 pandemic among other reasons prevented its organization.

Testament to how competitive this year’s event will be, is the recent performances of the teams involved.

The U-20 Lionesses of Cameroon from a sensational 2024 maiden Women’s FIFA World Cup qualification will use the tournament as preparations aid.

Congo made it through to the third round of the World Cup qualification but lost to Egypt after defeating Namibia in the second round.

The Central African Republic intend to use this year’s event to work on the growth of the women’s game.

When the competition was last held in 2020, Equatorial Guinea emerged champions. However, this time, a new title holder is awaited due to the absence of Equatorial Guinea.

Congo and CAR are expected to arrive Cameroon on February 11 as well as the officials with the opening match billed for February 12.

Coach Hassan Balla’s Cameroon will raise the curtains against Central Africa Republic, at the 39000 capacity Bepanda Omnisport stadium on February 12.

A day later, the Central African Republic lock horns with Congo, before one last dance against Cameroon on February 15.

The point accumulation system will be a yardstick to determine champions after three games played. In case of absolute parity, head to head will be examined.
