Lekie Filles midfielder Tantoh Melvis Ngifor claimed the emotions almost rendered him speechless after helping her side secure the 2023 Guinness Super League championship crown on Saturday at the Bonamoussadi stadium.
Though she has been battling with injuries, the experienced midfielder played a key role in Lekie Filles’ maiden Guinness Super League success after joining the club from Awa Ladies with whom she won the last two titles.
A slight niggle meant the 29-year-old had to make do with substitute roles in most games but she pushed her mates on and off the pitch as coach Stephane Ndzana’s team outclassed every contender to reach the submit after 19 games.
After the title confirmation 6-2 win against Authentic Ladies on Saturday, Tantoh said: ‘Today was amazing, by the fans, the club, the team – everyone was concentrated to get the result.
‘In moments like this you don’t know exactly what you say because the emotion is so high.
‘To win the Guinness Super League is amazing, and in the first season it is doubly amazing.
‘I am so happy, I am so glad to help my team, and I am so proud to play for this team,” Tantoh said.
“The players deserved it. We worked very hard and today was the best way to win the title.
‘In the game we played very good football and we deserved that.’
Lekie reached the 50 points mark with their wins against Authentic Ladies which made them uncatchable this season as even closest chasers Éclair Ladies FC can’t catch them.
Lekie Filles will finish the remaining three games of the season before shifting their attention to representing Cameroon in the preliminaries of 2023 CAF Champions League.
