Marou Souaibou have been training with their new team mates for the first time after completing his move to Orlando Pirates till June 2025.

After weeks of speculation from November 11 when kick442.com first break the story, Marou was finally announced as a Pirates player on Thursday morning after sealing a $200k plus 20% next sale move from Cotonsport of Garoua. Jose Riveiro had identified the Cameroonian forward as his prime target as he looked to solve their goal scoring problem.

After agreeing a deal with The Bucs, Souaibou was spotted at the Rand Stadium early this morning where he undertook his duties for the first time but fans will wait until his first game for his public presentation.

22-year-old Souaibou, who spent five seasons at Cotonsport got straight down to work and has been photographed taking part in his first training session with his new team mates at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg this Thursday afternoon.

The former Cotonsport skipper should prove to be an excellent signing for Pirates as he’s a top class player who will bring a much needed goal threat to the nine-time champions of the DSTV Premiership for the rest of this season.

He is the second Cameroon to join Pirates in the past 12 months as experience forward Bienvenu Eva Nga came in the summer.

During his three seasons at Cotonsport first team Souaibou scored 38 goals, 12 assists in 74 appearances.

Pirates will hope he can keep that record up in South Africa and add plenty of goals to the Bucs in the next few years.

This season the club only scored 12 goals in 15 games. Souaibou should solve that problem as during his time at Cotonsport he scored goals in the teens twice. However he arrives South Africa for his first experience abroad.

Jose Riveiro and Pirates officials are taking a calculated risk that he will keep his production high while in the colors of the nine-time champions.

Marou is a great signing for the Bucs. The Cameroon international is an immediate upgrade over what the Gunners got up top since the start of the current DSTV Premiership season from Eva Nga and co.

He should provide a good portion of the additional goals the club needs and open up space for the rest of the Pirates attackers by drawing more attention through the wings (and, you know, actually getting into the box).

Besides his exploits at Cotonsport, Souaibou has represented Cameroon at the Olympic, Intermediate and senior national team categories. The current armband bearer of Cameroon’s Olympic team was part of the indomitable Lions squad that played the 2022 FIFA World cup in Qatar.

If all go as planned, including the acquisition of a work permit the 2022 Cameroon footballer of the year could make his debut for his new club on Sunday against Stellenbosch.
