FC Ebolowa could become the 2025 UNIFFAC Women’s CAF Champions League winner this Monday if they maintain their unbeaten run against Equatorial Guinea side 15 de Agosto in their fourth outing of competition.
The 2024 Cameroon champions enter the clash against the reigning Equatorial Guinea side keen to write history, by becoming the first Cameroonian club to win the zonal event.
Ahead of the game against Agosto that is condemned to win to be crowned champions, FC Ebolowa head coach Oudou Kpoumie says his team is focused only thinking about the objective set before the start of the competition though the game is a decider.
Speaking 24 hours before the game, coach Kpoumie who represented his club at the traditional pre-match conference displayed confidence and desire to win and became the first Cameroonian club to qualify for the continental showpiece.
“To us this game is just another game. We know its a very important game for the two teams but we stay focused and determined to get the required results to help us qualify.
“We know we are playing against a club that is at home and have the backings of their fans but we are not strangers to these types of situations so we have to adapt and do our best to remain focused and have the hunger to win in this game against a good Agosto team.”
Agosto have the best frontline of the competition per goals scored while FC Ebolowa have the best backline that only let in one goal so far. It is thus a meeting of the most efficient frontline and backline of the competition. Despite Agosto’s potency in the final third, Kpoumie has a clear approach going into game.
“We have to stay in it and take our chances against this team that has a lot of qualities,” the multiple winner of the Cameroon women’s top flight championship stated.
Last year Lekie Filles came close, but unfirtunately faltered in the last game against a good TP Mazembe side that emerged champions and went on to conquer in the continental event.
The FC Ebolowa gaffer who previously experienced the CAF Champions League with Louves Minprof in 2021 says they took lessons from the past experiences that can be crucial this Monday.
Coach Kpoumie lauded the efforts made by the teams in competition generally and says it could be crucial in games like that against Agosto.
“The level of the competition is quite interesting. We have seen some interesting matches in this edition of the competition and just like last year, the gap between teams is very close. For some time there are improvements in the quality of matches likely because of what all clubs do back at home. For us we will do our best to ensure our girls are motivated for this and get the result,” Kpoumie concluded.
FC Ebolowa go into their fourth game in the competition as group leaders with nine points and only needing a point from their last outing against Agosto to be crowned 2025 champions of UNIFFAC and join defending champions TP Mazembe as the two representatives of the zone in the finals later this year.
For Agosto on seven points so far, it is a more complex equation. They can only win the competition by getting maximum points against unbeaten FC Ebolowa.
