After being honoured as the best-performing beach soccer President and icon of sports administration for 2023, the coordinator of Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) has dedicated the award to beach soccer family across the country.
Hadejia who doubled as the President of African Beach Soccer Union (ABSU) has been the brain behind the recent development of the game in the country.
Thanks to his administrative acumen, Nigeria now has a beach soccer league which will enter its fourth season in 2024.
“It’s been a long journey as far as 2015 when I got involved with the beach soccer. I think a lot has happened over the years,” Hadejia told journalists after receiving the award.
“I introduced beach soccer starting in Kebbi State where no one expected beach soccer to emerge. We have been holding a lot of activities of beach soccer both locally and internationally whereby we have represented Nigeria and Africa in world championships.”
Nigeria Champions, Kebbi Beach Soccer Club (BSC) recently participated at the 2023 World Winners Cup (Club World Cup for beach soccer teams) as Africa’s sole representative and reached the Round of 16.
“The Kebbi team just returned from Italy from the World Cup of beach soccer and I think we performed excellently well.” He continued.
“Beyond that, I think I have helped champion beach soccer in other states like Kwara, Abia, Akwa Ibom, and recently in Jigawa State and so many other places including Niger state.
“I think being a national coordinator, I am also glad to inform you that we have one of the best beach soccer leagues in the whole of Africa. I a proud to say that.
“Receiving this award is a thing of joy to be recognised. Sincerely I have a good team behind me that supports me to accomplish this feat. I want to dedicate this award to all the beach soccer family across Nigeria and all those that have supported me. This is for them.” He concluded.
