Interpools 2023: Ashu Kelvin’s heroics helps ISHOSA share spoils with USA

Union Sportive of Abong Mbang and Isle of Hope Sports Academy Limbe have played a zero all tie in the opening match of the 2023 National Interpools in Yaounde.

Played at the Ngoa-Ekelle stadium in Yaounde, the representatives from the East and South West regions failed to find the back of the net.

Both teams used the opening segment of the match to impose their own playstyle.

The first real action of the match came in at the 13th minute of the match when Clothaire Laouan Sangono thought he had given Union Sportive D’Abong Mbang the lead but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

Five minutes later, Brice Tabi Ashu of Isle of Hope Sports Academy, ISHOSA, Limbe came close to scoring with a well taken free kick but the shot went inches off target.

ISHOSA then started mounting pressure and at th 30th minutes of play, Brice Tabi Ashu came close to scoring again. After an initial shot from Ivan Yatchet was saved by goalkeeper Narcisse D’Assise Onkoant of Union Sportive of Abong Mbang, the resulting header from Brice Tabi Ashu was also saved.

Both teams then struggled to create chances but both sides failed to find the back of the net at half time.

Union Sportive of Abong Mbang’s Starting XI against ISHOSA

Upon resumption of the second half, coach Nlend Aime of ISHOSA brought in Wilson Joseph Junior.

However, it was Union Sportive that had the first chance at goal as Leonard Nyuybin Wirba’s shot at goal was saved by goalkeeper Ashu Kevin.

Wajiri Haman of Union Sportive of Abong Mbang thought he had given his team the lead at the 50th minute of the match but his long range shot hit the crossbar.

Ivan Yatchet’s header at the 72nd minute of play was nothing to worry about for Union Sportive of Abong Mbang.

Johnson Souman Berry forced goalkeeper Kelvin Ashu Mbah to pull out a man of the match save after a shot from close range.

Efforts from both teams to win all three points failed to yield fruits.

Union Sportive of Abong Mbang and Isle of Hope Sports Academy both have one point each.

On the second day of play to be played on Monday July 17, 2023, Union Sportive of Abong Mbang will log horns with Sporting Football Club of Maroua while Isle of Hope Sports Academy will clash with Volcan Football Club of Noun.
