Philipe Matapa scored late in the first-half and just upon resumption in the second segment but YAFOOT FC suffered a 2-3 defeat over MTN Elite 1 title playoff chasing Gazelle FA on Sunday, sending the hosts boys two points behind leaders Bamboutos FC.

The Match day 15 of the MTN Elite 1 championship fixture in front of hundreds of fans at the Roumde Adjia Annex stadium wasn’t short of spectacle.

Giant forward took his season tally to four while Joel Djonang, Sabo Abdullahi and Sali Oumarou were also on target for Gazelle.

Matapa scored his third club goal of the season as he steered Franck Steve Belobo’s cross into the bottom corner of Mbahbi Marcelin’s to silence the crowd at the Roumde Adjia Annex stadium.

YAFOOT FC could have doubled the advantage before the break, when Belobo dribbled past Joel Djonang but he fired wide.

Matapa scored second for YAFOOT ten minutes into the second segment after receiving a great ball into the box from John Efufa.

The striker put his laces behind the ball but a poor stretch from Mbahbi allow YAFOOT to double their advantage.

It looked like YAFOOT was running away with it, but it wasn’t to be. Three minutes later, Joel Djonang headed home a fine cross from a Carlice D’Or Nwatsock corner to half the deficit.

YAFOOT passed by a number of chances to restore their two goals advantage and were made to pay late into the encounter.

Coach Robert Leona’s team conceded in the 88th minutes when a Sabo effort was spilled by Paul Dublin and the Referee pointed to the center to confirm the ball had crossed the goal line. Play halted for nine minutes as YAFOOT FC players protest the decision.

Just 30 seconds after the game resumed Sali Oumarou scored the winner to crown a spectacular afternoon in Garoua.

The 7th win of the season lifts Gazelle FA to the second spot on the log with 25 points obtained from 16 games while YAFOOT’s eighth defeat leaves them on the 10th spot with 15 points after four wins and three draws.
