Ganago’s solo strike keeps Nantes in French Ligue 1

Ignatius Ganago Kpene was the hero on Saturday night as he scored the lone goal to help FC Nantes beat SCO Angers 1-0 in the final round of the French Ligue 1 championship and secure survival.

The Nantois entered the fixture in desperate need of results to ensure they remain in the top-flight championship after the end of the disappointing season.

Ganago’s fifth goal of the season midway into the second segment was enough as the Nantes defence that had his compatriot Jean Charles Castelletto held on till the end to ensure they get the three points that help keep them afloat.

Though Angers had some good chances to equalize, they wasted them as the host held on to grab all three points.

The win takes Nantes’ tally for the season to 36 points, which puts them on the 16th spot after a forgettable French Ligue 1 season.

Despite the difficulties faced by the 2023 French Cup finalist, it was a satisfactory campaign for Ganago and Castelletto who enjoyed the luxury of regular game time.
