Sunday, March 26, Samuel Eto’o Fils – the president of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) says works at the institution’s next headquarters failed to resume as scheduled earlier this year due to legal battles around the project.
Eto’o who took over from Seidou Mbombo Nyoya in December 2021 and vowed to continue the project to provide a befitting office building for the institution had announced work was to resume in January 2023, but it wasn’t to be.
In a recent granted the CRTV team, Eto’o said FECAFOOT has the zeal to forge ahead with the project but have realities before them.
“We were planning to resume work in January but for reasons out of our control that didn’t happen,” the former Inter Milan and Barcelona forward said before adding;
“We are still waiting for the approval from the justice system. There are things that in our view were not properly done. So to us it’s preferable to get clearance from justice.”
The multi million project has lasted over decades through the mandate of not less than four FECAFOOT presidents.
Eto’o had promised to resume work on the project in January 2023 but this new twist prolongs the wait for the delivery of the structure that will take FECAFOOT headquarters from Tsinga to Warda in Yaounde.
In the meantime, Eto’o unveiled the new Indomitable Lions center over the weekend in the Odza neighborhood in Yaounde.
The project started in the Iya Mohamed era of FECAFOOT courtesy the FIFA forward initiative was realized courtesy of the input of president Tombi A Roko, Seidou Mbombo Nyoya and most recently Samuel Eto’o.
It will host national team camps and camps of top clubs in the country willing and able to afford the services henceforth.
