Cameroon midfield duo Olivier Ntcham and Kemen will report to camp for this Monday with varied injuries barely six days to the crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier game against The Swallows of Burundi.
Both midfielders were not at full throttle for their Turkish clubs over the weekend due to the fitness concerns.
Kayserispor were forced to replace Kemen after 81 minutes of their 1-1 draw away to Antalyaspor last Saturday. The 27-year-old is believed to have suffered a muscle strain.
Kemen however took to Instagram to assure he is feeling better and the gravity of the injury picked up in his fourth league appearance of the season isn’t as initially reported. He reported to camp on Sunday evening.
Ntcham of Samsunspor on his part didn’t even feature over the weekend. His last appearance for his club goes back to August 27.
An abductor problem is currently troubling the former Manchester City and Celtic midfielder though he is expected in Yaoundé this Monday.
Injuries to Ntcham and Kemen leaves Rigobert Song with Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Francois Regis Mughe, Samuel Oum Gouet, Gael Ondoua and Ben Elliot as the remaining options in midfield.
Cameroon is already without suspended Jean Charles Castelletto and injured Enzo Ebosse.
The Indomitable Lions will face Burundi in a do-or-die contest on September 12 in Garoua. A win in the fixture seals a place in the 2023 AFCON tournament penciled for Côte d’Ivoire early next year.
