Cameroon Football: Who is benefiting from the division?

In the past weeks, Cameroon’s football has continued to witness more division in the various associations responsible for the smooth functioning of the sport.

From the referees association, to players syndicate, to club presidents and even to sport journalists, the story of division has become the order of the day.

The unanswered question is who is actually benefiting from the division in our football?  Who is sponsoring such activities ?

Recently, National Syndicate of Cameroon Footballers known by its french acronym SYNAFOC, dismissed it’s vice president Lucien Mettomo for what they described as going against the statutes of the association.

Kick442 gathered that, the former Cameroon International defender had embarked on the creation of a new association for players known as the National Association of Cameroon Footballers. Thus creating the division.

Presidents of elite One and Two clubs are also divided. At the end of the elite one and two Championship, a faction of club presidents summoned an extraordinary general assembly which was later banned by the administrative authorities.

Now, some club presidents have created a rival association of club presidents known as the Association of Professional Football Clubs in Cameroon.

What is left for ACEC (Association of Elite Clubs) will be seen this Thursday June 15, as they are expected to hold their general assembly meeting.

The referees association is not left out in this division;

The division in the ranks of the referees started during the last FECAFOOT elections. Where is Yakam Gilbert today?? Remember Yakam was the delegate who represented the referees at the elections. How did Alioum Sidi take over the referees association? How did Foko Kamga who retired as a regional league referee became president of the Central Referees Commission (CCA) replacing a more accomplished Nsangou ? Evehe Divine who was a senior Referees instructor has been taken off the picture. There’s a camp backing the Evehe and Yakam’s group and another camp backing the current person’s at the top of the referees corp.

It’s even more shocking that the the division is even strong at the level of amateur football. Amateur football that is supposed to be the breadbasket of Cameroon’s football is rather fueling the division.

There are two Unions (Associations) for Amateur club presidents. These days there’s UNIFAC and ACEFAC. This division makes it difficult for these club presidents to have a high bargaining power.

Journalists who are supposed to be neutral are not left out of the charade. The Cameroon Association of Sports Journalists (CASJ) is divided into several factions making things difficult. Sports Journalists now choose their camps and what to report on.

The big question remains who is benefiting from the division in Cameroon football? The Referees Association is now divided just like club presidents, journalists, SYNAFOC and even fans divided.
