Captain Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene plus fellow forwards, Nchout Njoya Ajara and Michaela Abam have all been included in Cameroon’s star-studded squad to begin the country’s quest to reach their 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON).

Jean Baptiste Bisseck, has named a 23-player Cameroon squad to face Kenya in the first round 2024 AWCON qualifier later this month.

The squad released via social media this Monday, September 18 constitutes nine home-based players and 14 plying their trade abroad, charged with the responsibility of defending the country’s zeal to navigate this round of the qualifier.

Three Goalkeepers, six defenders and eight midfielders and six forwards make the cut. Surprisingly, regular first choice keeper, Bawou Ange, plus defensive pair Estelle Laura Johnson and Marie Aurellle Awona have been left out.

However, the coach can count on experienced midfield trio of Grace Ngock Yango, Meffoumetou Falone and Ngock Monique who featured in last year’s AWCON in Morocco just like returning Ngo Mbeleck Genevieve amongst others.

The head coach of the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, Jean Baptiste Bisseck has picked nine home-based players to complement the foreign players retained for the first round 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) tie against Kenya later this month.

The Guinness Super League players will join the rest from abroad who have begun arriving in the country last weekend as Cameroon steps up gear to enter the first round of the qualification.

Cameroon hosts Kenya on September 22 at the Reunification stadium in Bepanda Douala, before traveling to Nairobi for the reversed fixture at the Nyaro national stadium on September 26.

The winner of the tie will advance to the final round of the qualifiers to determine the nations to QUAL for next year’s AWCON tournament in Morocco.
