Nigeria senior men’s national team edged host, Cote D’Ivoire 1-0 to move to the second position in Group A after two games.

Victor Osimhen made a yard for himself inside the box after an accurate pass and took a shot that went over the bar in the eighth minute.

A minute later, Christian Kouame had a great chance inside the six-yard box. He shot to the middle of the goal but Stanley Nwabali pulled off an exquisite save hands to deny him.

Seko Fofana wasted an opportunity in the 31st minute when he found himself in acres of space and fired a terrific shot from long range straight toward the right side of the target but the goalkeeper made a brilliant save and stopped his attempt.

Six minutes into the second half, Osimhen went down in the box after a challenge from a defender.

Referee Mustapha Ghorbal pointed to the spot awarding a penalty to the Super Eagles after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) check.

Captain William Troost Ekong won the battle of wills as he sent an unstoppable penalty past Yahia Fofana into the middle of the goal.

Up next for the Super Eagles is their final group game against Guinea Bissau.

The Elephants will face group leaders Equatorial Guinea.
