Defending champions, Senegal started their title defence at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 2-0 win over Gambia at the Stade Charles Konan Banny, Yamoussoukro on Monday.

It took just four minutes for the Teranga Lions to break the deadlock as Pape Gueye benefitted from a nice pass inside the box by captain Sadio Mane to give his side the lead.

The goal gave Aliou Cisse’s side the confidence to surge before Gambia were reduced to ten players as Ebou Adams got an early shower.

Seven minutes into the second half, Senegal doubled their lead courtesy of Lamine Camara.

A beautiful work by Iliman Ndiaye set up Lamine Camara in the 86th minute.

Camara became the first player to score two goals at AFCON 2023.

Senegal moved top of Group C with three points ahead of Cameroon’s clash with Guinea.

Up next for Cisse’s side is a clash titanic clash with Cameroon on January 19, 2024.
