AFCON 2023: Equatorial Guinea aim for first podium finish in Ivory Coast

Equato Guinean senior men’s national team has not secured a podium finish at their previous appearance at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 2023 AFCON is Nzalang Nacional’s fifth appearance at the tournament.

Their best showing was a fourth-placed finish on home soil in 2015.

Juan Micha’s side will rely on the team’s top goal scorer, Emilio Nsue for goals at the competition.

The Nzalang Nacional will prepare for the tournament with a friendly match against Cameroon on January 8, 2024.

Standing on the team’s path is three-time African champions, Nigeria which has had the highest number of podium finishes at the AFCON.

The first group game will see both sides trade tackles on January 14 after Ivory Coast clashes with Guinea Bissau.

On January 18, 2024, the National Thunder will face Guinea Bissau in their second group game.

They will end their group campaign with a clash with host, Ivory Coast on January 22.
