The head coach of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) host, Cote d’Ivoire’s Jean Louis Gasset is looking at a diffult situation as his team faces Group A leaders, Equatorial Guinea in the final group game on Monday.

The encounter will determine the teams that will make it to the knockout stage of the competition. The Nzalang Nacional and Nigeria both have four points while the Elephants only boast of three points from the 2-0 victory over Guinea Bissau in the first game of the tournament.

In need of a win to guarante a place in the Round of 16, Gasset looks at a difficult situation the team find itself after a 1-0 loss to Nigeria the last time out.

“We are in a tough situation ahead of the game,” Gasset told journalists during the pre match press conference in Abidjan on Sunday.

“We are going to attack throughout the game seeing that we are ranked third in the group. We need to take our destiny in our hands.”

Apart from his side’s game with Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria will trade tackles with Guinea Bissau in the other group game at the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium, Abidjan.

“We don’t have to wait for the other result knowing well that if we win, we will qualify.

“The playing system of Equatorial Guinea is not changing. They play in solidarity with good system. They are very strong on the left side. We know the type of match to play. We have to be concrete and efficient as well as taking our chances.” He concluded.
