Former Cameroon international Clinton N’Jie has opened up on his uncertain football future, revealing that there is currently nothing concrete on the table that would convince him to return to competitive action.

N’Jie was speaking to the media on Thursday after coming to watch the Indomitable Lions train ahead of their friendly against Côte d’Ivoire on October 3.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Olympique Marseille forward said he has instead returned to Africa to rest and spend time with his family in Côte d’Ivoire, where he has been warmly welcomed.

“For now, there is nothing concrete. I haven’t received any project that truly interests me, so I decided to return to Africa, rest and spend some time with my family in Côte d’Ivoire,” N’Jie said.

The 33-year-old explained that his connection to Côte d’Ivoire is also personal, with his wife, Adriana Romeo, being Ivorian.

“My wife is Ivorian, and I have been warmly welcomed here, just as I am in Cameroon,” he added.

N’Jie revealed that he has not played competitively for two years, leaving his return to the game dependent on how he feels and whether the right opportunity emerges.

“I haven’t played competitively for two years. Whether I return to football will depend on how I feel,” he said.

N’Jie began his professional career at Lyon before moving to Tottenham in 2015. He subsequently played for Marseille, Dynamo Moscow, Sivasspor and Rapid București, while also becoming an important member of the Cameroon national team during his international career.

He was part of the Indomitable Lions squad that won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and remains a familiar figure around the national team.

For now, N’Jie is taking his time away from competitive football, with the former Cameroon forward leaving the door open for a return if a project that interests him comes along.
