Christian Kofane’s promising start to the season has been interrupted by injury, with the young Cameroon forward expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines.
The 19-year-old Bayer Leverkusen attacker picked up a muscle injury to his left thigh during Cameroon’s 3-1 victory over Comoros in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Garoua.
Kofane started the game but could not continue after the first half, forcing Cameroon to make a change at the break.
Leverkusen have since confirmed that the injury will keep the teenager out for several weeks, although the exact length of his recovery will depend on how he responds to treatment.
It is an unfortunate setback for Kofane, who has been making steady progress and earning more opportunities with the Indomitable Lions. His pace and direct approach have already made him an exciting option in Cameroon’s attack.
The timing is also frustrating for the youngster, who would have hoped to build on his contribution to the national team as Cameroon began their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with a convincing win.
For now, Kofane’s focus will be on recovering properly rather than rushing his return. Bayer Leverkusen and Cameroon will both be hoping the injury does not keep him out for longer than expected.
The teenager will now begin his rehabilitation as he looks to get back on the pitch and continue what has been a rapid rise at both club and international level.
