Players of MTN Elite One side PWD Social Football Club of Bamenda failed to report for training on Wednesday morning at the Bamenda Proximity Stadium in Mendakwe in protest against unpaid salaries and match bonuses.

As of Wednesday morning, no member of the technical staff or club administration was present at the scheduled training session as tensions continued to grow within the Abakwa Boys camp.

The latest development follows earlier reports by Kick442.com from Afeseh Apong which revealed that the players had accumulated several months of salary arrears and were still awaiting outstanding match bonuses. The financial difficulties have reportedly affected morale within the squad and raised concerns over the club’s ability to fulfil its obligations towards players and staff.

PWD are not the only Elite One club facing financial challenges this season. Several clubs across the championship have struggled to meet salary commitments amid rising operating costs and limited financial resources.

Reports indicate that clubs have received only eight million FCFA out of the expected 48 million FCFA subvention promised by FECAFOOT for salary payments this season. The shortfall, coupled with the huge cost of running clubs, has been cited as one of the major reasons many teams have failed to honour their commitments to players and staff.

As of Wednesday morning, PWD Bamenda officials had not issued any statement regarding the players’ action.

The boycott raises fresh concerns over the club’s preparations for the remainder of the season as supporters await a resolution to the crisis.
