Mankon United made a statement win in the opening game of the North West Regional League, whitewashing Hilltop Strikers 5-1 at the Bamenda Proximity Stadium this Thursday, March 12.
The league which kicked off before a huge number of football lovers from the region who highly anticipated this day, saw Carter Bakado draw first blood for United at the fourth minute but it took Hilltop just four minutes after the opener to level scores through Roland Abongwa.
Mankon United’s midfield maestro Njibero Durrell was the man of the opening game, restoring their lead just before halftime and netting his second two minutes to the end of regular time.
The former captain of Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda, becomes the first player to score a brace in the 2025/26 Northwest Regional football League season.
Fritz Fanfan Tabe was on the scoresheet. He scored the third and it was Lanjo William Nchotu who sealed the well deserved win for Mankon United with a stoppage time goal.
Coach Hamlet Godson has now led United to a flying start in the league as they chase the crown after narrowly missing it last football season that saw options Sports Academy of Bamenda represent the region at the National Interpools after emerging regional champion.
This resounding win propels Mankon United to the top of Pool D comfortably enjoying a good number of goals at the top, good enough to give them advantage on goal difference if it ever gets to the point of Probabilities.
Hilltop Strikers on the other hand, will be hoping to bounce back from this defeat in their next game.
