Cameroon forward Christian Kofane says he will feel no pressure when the Indomitable Lions face hosts Morocco in Friday’s TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final in Rabat — a fixture that revives memories of a famous continental meeting.
The match is a remake of the 1988 semi-final, the last time Morocco hosted the Africa Cup of Nations, adding historical significance to a quarter-final already rich in intrigue.
At just 19 years old, the Bayer Leverkusen forward is featuring at his first AFCON and has already made a major impact, scoring two goals in the tournament. He was also named Man of the Match after netting the decisive goal in Cameroon’s victory over South Africa.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Kofane played down concerns about the atmosphere in Rabat, drawing on his experience of playing in Europe.
“Regarding pressure, you know, in Germany there is a club called Dortmund,” Kofane said. “I think their supporters are more numerous than those of Morocco. So concerning the public, there is no pressure. It’s calm. We are working, and we will apply what we have done during the week. May the best team win.”
Kofane’s calm outlook reflects the broader mindset in the Cameroon camp as they prepare to face a well-organised Moroccan side backed by home support. Cameroon are expected to lean on their physical presence and attacking intensity, with Kofane’s movement and finishing likely to be central to their game plan.
Despite the historical echoes of 1988, Kofane insists the focus remains firmly on execution and discipline.
“We work, and that’s it,” he added. “We will apply what we prepared during the week.”
As Rabat prepares for another chapter in the Cameroon–Morocco rivalry, the spotlight will once again fall on Kofane — a teenager already showing maturity beyond his years on Africa’s biggest stage.
