Though in the absence of injured skipper and main defender, Jean Charles Castelletto, FC Nantes somehow found the resources to pick up a comfortable 3-1 victory over Enzo Tchato’s Montpellier on Saturday on match day four of the French top-flight championship.

Tchato started the game on the bench but was brought on after ten minutes, replacing injured Idrissa Sylla.

Matthis Albine put the visitors ahead after 24 minutes but Montpellier equalized six minutes later, but Moses Simon put Nantes back in the lead with a penalty in the 45th+7 minute.

Though leading 2-1, Nantes didn’t take their feet off the pedal as they kept up the pressure and got the goal to seal the win via an insurance goal from Mostafa Mohamed in the 85th minute.

Though Montpellier pushed to find a way back into the game, it wasn’t to be as the trademark Nantes defense since the start of the season kept it tight till the end.

The result means Nantes temporarily takes the top spot in the Ligue 1 with seven points, while Montpellier drops to the relegation zone with just one point from three games so far.

Nantes are unbeaten in their first three games of a Ligue 1 season for only the second time in the 21st century after having managed to do so in 2015/16 (14th at the end of the campaign).

The defeat also means Montpellier are winless in their first three games in Ligue 1 2024/25 (D1 L2), a first since the 2015/16 season (L3, 12th at the end of the season).
