Mballa Ogata Michèle is the first Cameroonian athlete to qualify for the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics. The shot putter secured her spot by reaching the shot put finals at the ongoing World Deaf Athletics Championship, finishing 8th in the world rankings

The first day of this quadrennial event kicked off today in Taipei, Taiwan, featuring four of the eight athletes from Cameroon.

In the sprints, Tsamjeu Parfait has advanced to the semi-finals of the Men’s 400m, which will take place this friday. He aims to clinch a medal and secure his place among the world’s best to qualify for Tokyo.

Despite being eliminated in the first series of the Men’s 100m, Mohamed Pekain has met the minimum qualification standards for the Deaflympics, keeping his hopes alive.

Unfortunately, Messe Bibiche was eliminated in the first round of the shot put final and will not qualify for the Deaflympics in this event.

On Friday July 19, the competition continues with Koung Mpele Emmanuel and Minyem Nang André Nazaire participating in the Men’s discus throw, and Tsamjeu competing in the semi-final of the Men’s 400m.

It’s worth noting that the high ambient temperature of around 38°C has made it challenging for athletes to achieve their personal best performances.
