Cote D’Ivoire forward, Sebastien Haller will not play his team’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener against Guinea Bissau on Saturday.
The coach of the national team Jean Louis Gasset confirmed that the Dortmund forward and Simon Adingra will not feature against the Djurtus as confirmed during the pre-match press conference.
The opening match between the Elephants and Baciro Cande side at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan is expected to be a keenly contested one without the two players.
“Sebastien Haller and Simon Adingra won’t be here in our first match,” Gasset told journalists.
“Only we are confident about their return. The team Doctor performed an MRI which gave us hope. They keep working.”
The team’s last training session on Friday signifies that Haller will not play the first game.
Haller was seen training alone on Friday. He has not scored any league goal for Dortmund after 11 games.
He scored nine goals with three assists after 19 league games.
Cote D’Ivoire will further play Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea in their other Group A game.
