AS FAR FC (Morocco) secured their second bronze medal at the end of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League third place match with a 2-0 win against Ampem Darkoa (Ghana) in Korhogo, Ivory Coast, on Saturday.

AS FAR FC started the match with Khadija Er-Rmichi, Siham Boukhami, Nouhaila Benzina, Fatima Dahmos, Ghizlane Chebak, Najat Badri, Mafia Nyame,
aziza Rabbah, Ghizlane Chhiri, Hanane Ait El Haj, and Ahmadou Douha.

For WAFU-B representative, Ampem Darkoa started the deciding match with Aishetu Fatao Awinimi, Martha Appiah, Diana Amoako, Linda Ansah, Ophelia Amponsah, Tracey Twum, Jennifer Owusuaa, Comfort Yeboah, Mabel Amoyaw, Abena Opoku, and Nancy Amoh.

The Moroccans started the game with more intense purposes, reducing their opponents to counterattacks.

The pressure up front was palpable including forcing the Ghanaians to clear the ball off the line.

After the first 15 minutes, Ampem Darkoa gradually grew into the game creating chances of their own.

AS FAR were not deterred and broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute from Nyame’s header.

Moments after the opener, Amoyaw almost equalised for the Ghanaians but Khadija Er-rmichi pulled up a superb save and punched the resulting corner away.

An incessant foray of attack from the Moroccans led to the second goal in the additional minutes of the second half as captain Chebbak headed in the doubler.

The second period was similar to the first with AS FAR attempting to increase their lead while Ampem Darkoa seeks to get back into the game with chances from both ends.

AS FAR hold on to the win to claim their second bronze medal after the same feat in 2021.

For the first time in the tournament history, a team from WAFU-B won’t get a podium finish after Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana claimed silver in 2021 and Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens clinched bronze medal in 2022.
