Joseph Apam Vianney reached the ten-goal mark this season with two second-half goals as APEJES of Mfou overturned a one goal deficit to beat Fovu of Baham by 2-1 on match day 18 of the 2022/23 MTN Elite One championship.

Coach Ndongo Emma’s APEJES bounced back in style from a 1-2 defeat against Gazelle FA in their previous outing.

Apam who entered the contest with eight goals to his name scored two goals in the opening seven minutes of the second-half as Ndongo Emma’s men picked up the important away win which gives them an outside chance of making the title playoff from a tight Pool B.

Not only did the result, reopen APEJES’ chances of making the playoffs, it also helped Bamboutos FC and Gazelle FA distance themselves from chasing Fovu.

Wouaffo fired the hosts ahead midway into the first-half, profiting from a succession of errors in to get the lead against the run of play. It was the first goal conceded by Real after five successive clean sheets in all competitions.

The hosts, who were also missing some players due to varied reasons dominated most of the first-half but APEJES held on to keep the deficit at 0-1 at the break.

APEJES improved in their potency in the final third and scored twice through Apam who’s combination with Christian Fack created all sorts of problems for the Fovu defence on the day.

The forward’s stride to lead most of APEJES’ attacking moves in the afternoon was Fovu’s undoing.

Though there were chances later on, the game finished 2-1 in favour of the 2021 vice champions from Mfou.

With the win, APEJES moves up to fourth spot on the log with 28 points from 18 games while Fovu remain third with the same number of points.

Meanwhile, Apam is a goal behind current league top scorer Junior Kemajou of Bamboutos FC of Mbouda.
