The Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) Douala branch is organizing a mini football tournament with its partners to foster peace and social cohesion in the country.
The tournament, dubbed “Football for Peace”, will take place between Saturday, November 11 to December 2, 2023, at the Camtel Bepanda Stadium.
This competition features four teams, namely CAMASEJ D, Higher institute of National Excellence (HIPE), PEPCAM, and Alpha higher institute of biomedical and technological sciences. The teams will compete in a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final.
CAMASEJ D aims to use this platform to promote peace and dialogue among journalists and other stakeholders, as well as to showcase the role of sports in enhancing social harmony and national unity.
The Football for peace tournament is also an opportunity for these press men and women to strengthen their working relationships with these other institutions.
The association’s football team has been actively involved in the sport, playing friendly matches with other corporate bodies for months.
Coached by seasoned trainer Clifford Ntuba, the Black Mambas, as they are nicknamed, is a scare to opponents. The team recently inflicted St. Jerome 4-1 in a friendly played on October 28.
Against a youthful Alpha, Pepcam and Hipe, Coach Clifford’s boys will bank on the expertise of clinical striker and Captain Smart Njikang Gabriel, pidgin newscaster with equinox television and also Vice president of the association.
The kickoff whistle will be given this Saturday, Nov 11 at 1pm.
