Cameroon has been booted out of the 2023 FIBA AFROCAN competition ongoing in Angola.

The team has lost to Morocco 50-78 in the qualification Round of the tournament, marring their chances of making it to the quarterfinals in their very first appearance.

The boys of coach Louis Marie Tsongui faltered at all levels. From falling to DR Congo 63-70 in the opener, to loosing by 65-71 to Mozambique on Day two, Étienne Tametong Kalume and teammates stood no chance against a hungry atlas Lion.

Arnold Kome was the ace card for the lions at the Kilamba Arena. The FAP shooting guard registered 18 points, two rebounds and three assists, which was unfortunately not enough.

“The organization was perfect, we had ambitions, we came here two weeks earlier than others, we have always been treated well, we thank our Angolan and Congolese brothers” coach Louis Marie Tsongui explains in the post match press conference.

Morocco is off to their second AFROCAN quarterfinals. They join DR Congo, Tunisia, Angola, Gabon, while waiting for the last three. A semi-final spot for each of the sides will guarantee their participation in the third edition of the AFROCAN in 2027.
