The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has postponed the start of the 2026 Interpools Tournament, with the competition now set to begin on Sunday, 19 July 2026 in Yaoundé instead of its initially scheduled 1 July kick-off.

The decision reflects the reality on the ground, with several regional leagues yet to conclude their championships and determine the teams that will represent them at Cameroon’s premier amateur football competition.

The Interpools is widely regarded as the biggest amateur football tournament in Cameroon, serving as the gateway to the professional ranks. Traditionally, the competition brings together the champions of the country’s 10 regional leagues, who battle for promotion to the MTN Elite Two, Cameroon’s second-tier championship.

So far, seven regions including the Littoral, Southwest, Northwest and North have crowned their champions, while the remaining regions are still completing their league campaigns to identify their representatives.

This year’s edition will also feature a significant change to the format. In addition to the regional champions, Bafmeng United and Union Sportive of Douala will take part after failing to secure their places in the MTN Elite Two through the relegation playoffs. Their inclusion means the tournament will feature more than the traditional 10 teams, making this year’s Interpools one of the most competitive in recent memory.

FECAFOOT also announced that the final phase of the Cameroon Cup will begin on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, meaning the domestic knockout competition will take centre stage before attention shifts to the Interpools later in the month.

With promotion to the MTN Elite Two at stake and an expanded field of competitors, the 2026 Interpools promises to be another fiercely contested chapter in Cameroon’s amateur football calendar.
