Adrien Mfoumou Boris scored a hat-trick to secure a first 2023/24 MTN Elite One relegation playoffs win for AS Fortuna on Thursday at the Ngoa Ekelle stadium.

The game whose kick-off was delayed due to logistics reasons ended up producing one of the best spectacles of match day two as Fortuna and Fauve scored five goals and the former won it 3-2.

Mfoumou got off the mark as early as the 12th minute of the game as he pounced on a Fauve Azur defensive blunder.

Mfede equalized for Fauve Azur with a sumptuous free-kick goal in the 28th minute, but Mfoumou restored the advantage two minutes later to make it a double in under half hour.

Fortuna defended the narrow advantage till the interval but there was more drama to come in the second segment.

Captain Ngomeni equalized for the Faya Boys just about 13 minutes after the break, but somehow Mfoumou found a way to secure the winner for Fortuna deep into the second segment.

Though Fortuna were reduced to nine in the closing stages, they held onto their advantage to add three points to their one they picked up on match day one.

The center region outfit is in a strong position to achieve survival this season if they keep their current form.
