Cotonsport FC of Garoua has beaten Renaissance of Ngoumou 1-0, to go top of Group A of the Cameroon Elite one championship.
The match which was played on Sunday at the Ngoa Ekelle Stadium in Yaounde, is an advanced day 12 game.
The Cameroon top tier championship is set to resume on Sunday February 12, 2023, for the second phase. But defending champions cotonsport was in action in an advanced game, as they will be actively involved in the CAF champions league group stage in the next coming weeks.
Forward Ramses Donfack netted the lone goal of the game shortly before half-time, as the Cotonites secured all three points.
Coach Gabriel Haman lined up three CHAN stars Che Malone Junior, Kaiba Djawal and Ramses Donfack, in his starting XI, but it was a Micky Mouse game between the two sides until the 44th minutes when Donfack curled in a beautiful effort to put cotonsport in front.
Renaissance tried to regroup in the second segment, but could not go pass Cotonsport’s solid defence.
Cotonsport also used the opportunity to offer few minutes of game time to new signings like Ebubechwu Emmanuel, and Kasali Goma, but the score line remained unchanged till the end of the game.
With the win, Cotonsport goes top of Group A with 20 points, two points ahead of second placed Colombe, with the latter having a game at hand.
Gabriel Haman’s side will on Wednesday play an advanced day 13 game against Eding Sport of Lekie before returning to Garoua.
