Dynamo 2-1 Victoria United: Malep Mathias’ late double reopens Elite 1 promotion race
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mathias Malep scored twice in added time this Thursday as Dynamo of Douala created the upset of match day 21 in the MTN Elite 2 championship.

The Bana Na Njoh defeated Elite One-bound Victoria United FC by 1-2 to blow the race for two MTN Elite One tickets wide open again.

The defeat took the host up to the eighth spot on the log, with an outside chance of promotion and condemned Victoria United to pick at least a point in their remaining two games to hope to secure qualification for the top-flight championship.

Junior Djacba perfectly dispatched an early second-half penalty to put the visitors ahead, sparking scenes of celebrations in the ranks of the visiting fans at the Japoma Annex stadium.

Djacba’s seventh goal of the season looked to be enough to earned three points and eventually secure return to the top-flight.

Dynamo scored late on before adding the second deep into the ten minutes of additional to delay Victoria United’s eventual return to the top-flight championship.
Malep’s goal took his tally for the season to ten goals – over 40% of Dynamo’s goals.

OPOPO as they are fondly called last featured in the Cameroon top-flight championship during the 2004/05 football season.

Though they suffered a setback of a defeat in the second of their last three outings, Peter Nga and co will go all out against Aigle Royal and Stade Bertoua in an attempt to pick a point and get one of two tickets to the top-flight championship.
