Cameroon’s new forward Danny Namaso Edi Mesumbe Loader says he is ready to give his all for the Indomitable Lions as he begins his international journey with the five-time African champions.
Speaking to Canal+, the 25-year-old striker — currently on loan at AJ Auxerre from FC Porto — said representing Cameroon at senior level had long been part of his personal dream, despite his early career in England’s youth ranks.
“I told my family and friends that I wanted to play for the youth teams in England and then move to Cameroon for the senior level,” Namaso explained. “It’s something I had in my heart for a long time.”
Born in Reading, England, Namaso (formerly known as Danny Loader) represented England up to Under-20 level before switching allegiance to Cameroon earlier this year. His decision was met with excitement among fans eager to see new attacking options in Marc Brys’ squad.
Namaso has made a bright start to life in France, scoring crucial goals for Auxerre in Ligue 1, including a recent strike in the 2-2 draw against Rennes. His confident displays have helped establish him as one of the club’s key forwards this season.
When asked about Cameroon’s chances at the next Africa Cup of Nations, Namaso avoided bold predictions but underlined the squad’s determination.
“It’s not up to me to decide who the favourites are,” he said. “But we’ll give everything to make the Cameroonian people happy. We have great players with a lot of quality, and we’ll do everything we can to win titles.”
Namaso’s form in France and his commitment to the national cause have quickly made him one of the most talked-about new faces in Cameroonian football. His blend of pace, creativity and finishing ability could offer Brys fresh attacking options as the Indomitable Lions prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
