Victoria United FC of Limbe have contracted Walinjom Daniel Walinjom as the fitness coach for the 2024/25 football season, thus marking his return to the club.
According to information reaching kick442.com editorial crew, coach Wally as he is popularly known was hired by the management of the 1996 and 2017 cup of Cameroon semi-finalist to focus on and improve the fitness of the club’s players during what will mark his second stint.
The move marks an end to a long period without being in the dugout for the trainer who was suspended two years ago by the Homologation and Disciplinary committee of the Southwest Regional League of FECAFOOT – following unattractive events during a league game between his LIFCA team and Buea United FC.
Though Wally had a brief stint on the books of Victoria United FC, this will mark his first real job after the Ngeme incident that saw three LIFCA staff see red.
The coach will work alongside lead trainer, David Nganbe and Technical Director Jean Cyrille Billong to ensure players of the team are up to speed vis-a-vis their commitments for the coming campaign.
Players of the reigning MTN Elite One champions are working tooth and nail with their technical staff to improve their performance and turn the tie around during the second-leg game against 1996 FC Samartex who beat them 1-0 in their first-leg 2024/25 CAF Champions League preliminary round clash last Sunday in Douala.
Coach Wally’s valuable experience garnered over the years at Union Sportif of Douala, LIFCA, Options Sports Academy amongst others will be crucial for Victoria United FC when they visit Ghana this weekend for the second-leg game.
The Victoria United FC contingent is expected to leave the shores of Cameroon on Friday and arrive Ghana the same day for the second-leg game.
FC Samartex holds a slim advantage over the Cameroon champions, but need to be at their best to prevent Victoria United from having a say in the second leg.
The aggregate winner of this round of the tie will advance to the next phase to face USGNN or Raja Athletic Club in a mouthwatering fixture.
The new MTN Elite One championship season will begin on September 15 with Victoria United FC hoping to defend the crown they won last year amidst spotted sparks of controversies.
