Former super Eagles captain Uche Okechukwu who is one of the chairmanship candidate for Abia FA, on Friday May 5th 2023, walked out from the venue of the elections at villa Roy hotel( mission Hills) Umuahia, after 17 fake delegates ( Local Govt chairmen) were accredited and smuggled in by the incumbent chairman Rev Obioma Onyehala, and all efforts made by the other contestants to have their identification cleared was turned down by the electorial committee.
Meanwhile, Uche Okechukwu had earlier arrested one of the fake delegates before the election today and the said delegate has made some confessional statement, just as the local chairman of Isialangwa south Gilbert Nkechi who was physically present at the venue was denied accreditation and replaced by a hair saloon operator not known in football matters in the state.
At the end of the elections, Former Abia state football Association Vice chairman for over 15years scored 16 votes, Mr Obina Peters had 5 votes while Mr Uche Okechukwu who left the venue over the fake delegates issue got 2 votes.
Rev Obioma Onyehala who has been the vice chairman for Abia state football Association for over 15 years took over the the board after the death of Former Abia state football Association chairman late EC Chuckwuemeka.
Meanwhile, all the contestants have called for the cancellation of the elections as 17 delegates Local chairmen are not known to them.
